Micil Distillery Experience

Tour Overview

Our classic distillery experience focuses on the real history of poitín, Ireland’s original spirit. You’ll learn what poitín’s really made from (hint – it’s not potatoes), and how it can often share ingredients with whiskey and gin. You’ll discover why it was made illegal for so many years, and hear some stories from our own family’s illicit poitín distilling history. We’ll then take you back through the colourful history of gin, and explain exactly how a gin is made. We’ll teach you a little about botanicals, including the same Connemara ‘bogbean’ we’ve been adding to our poitín for over 170 years.

The tour takes place in the heart of our working distillery and includes three tastings – two poitíns and a gin – the very same spirits being brewed and distilled around you. It’s a fun, informative experience that’s definitely not to be missed.
